About STO

STO's CME program consists of articles in The Oncologist approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ by the School of Medicine of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Journal is available in print or online. The readership of the Journal provides a rich database for research into learner gaps, and combined with perspectives of the leading world experts of its clinical advisors—many of whom are associated with the National Institutes of Health (NIH)—STO's needs assessments provide an extraordinary foundation for the development of continuing medical education that will truly impact physician knowledge and competency, strategies for implementing knowledge transmitted into the practice environment of the oncologist, with an ability to impact the outcomes of care offered by oncologists.

STO is committed to expanding its already robust education program through the Milestones in Oncology series, live conferences and workshops.  The CME Committee has prepared its CME Program policies and procedures with full anticipation of this expansion.   These include:

  • Faculty development for educational courses designed to reach the “hard-to-reach” practitioner in the field with new treatment paradigms, drug safety, delivery and resources, guiding therapies, biomarkers and arrays.
  • CME-accredited lectures peer-reviewed by The Oncologist with credit offered to manuscript reviewers.
  • Highlights of major oncology meetings by disease area distilled for practitioners in a variety of formats: WebEx, slides, videos, streaming videos, and podcasts under the guidance of STO's CME Medical Advisory Board.
  • Educational interventions for nurses and pharmacists, who comprise an integral part of the oncology team
